OPEN STUDY / ANOTHER WAY TO READ THE SPACE
01 / THE SPATIAL IDEA
The garden is the room that connects every other.
The courtyard is the organizing room of the house. Its tree, planted ground and water are visible from the shared rooms, while the covered perimeter gives movement through the home a sheltered edge.
The study considers different degrees of openness: generous thresholds for gathering, filtered boundaries for privacy, and quieter sleeping rooms. The images are AI-generated interpretations of one architectural idea, rather than a record of a built home.
02 / DESIGN DECISIONS
The decisions behind the space.
01
The brief
Bring daily life around a garden without turning the house into a glass pavilion. This concept explores a home where shared rooms can open generously, while bedrooms keep a quieter edge. The central question is how to offer contact with planting, water and daylight without giving every room the same degree of exposure.
02
The spatial response
Two inhabited wings frame an open courtyard. Cooking and gathering occupy the shared edge; bedrooms sit further along the sides. A covered perimeter links the rooms, so the garden becomes part of the route through the house. Deep roof edges and a perforated brick boundary explore shade and filtered views. These are design intentions, not measured environmental results.

04 / READING THE ARRANGEMENT
How the spaces connect.
Read the arrangement.
Read the open centre first, then the rooms around it. Kitchen and dining share the upper edge; living and sleeping spaces occupy the wings. The diagram highlights the covered route, planted court and water. It interprets the concept images and is not a surveyed, dimensioned or construction-ready floor plan.
A small material language.
Terracotta continues from room to veranda, making the threshold feel like a change in light rather than a change in surface. Pale concrete gives the roof a quiet edge. Timber frames the openings, while the brick screen introduces texture and small, shifting patches of light. Planting completes the courtyard as an outdoor room.
